So you've gotten engaged!!! Congratulations! This is one of the most exciting times, and often overwhelming. You are now tasked with a to-do list longer and more detailed than you ever imagined.
One of the first things on your to-do list? Find a Photographer. However there is so much more to it than that. You may have an estimated budget, but do you know what you need to confirm before hiring a photographer? We are here to help you with that! This part can feel dontining and we wanted to lay it all out for you to click through and take notes, use these questions to even ask other photographers.
Taking your photos is only a small portion of the job. You want to make sure you can see a full gallery, know they have back up equipment and even backup plans if they couldn't make it.

I am located in Fort St John BC and live to travel! Our travel is quite extensive and we find ourselves traveling from Calgary to Kelowna and everywhere in between through out the summer. And often take on destination weddings in the winter. My husband and I have explored countries all over the world and spend the summer traveling around Canada capturing love stories. So if you are looking for a photographer that is local and knows the amazing spots, we are for you. However if you are looking for an adventurous destination, we can show up a few days early to location scout and find incredible locations just for you! Kelowna area is a common destination for us in summer as well. You can trust our artistic eye to find the most dreamy backdrops and flattering poses to help your wedding photos and videos to be timeless, and something you cherish.

We have thought of everything
This is such a good question, and one you should always ask your photographer! Your wedding day is so important and we want to make sure it is stress free. For weddings, there is likely no way this would ever happen. We have trained up our associate photographer who would take over in the case one of us is sick or unable. We would need to be on our death beds to miss out (or possibly contagious to others), because we value you guys so much! Heaven forbid this happens, and our associate is already shooting another wedding of ours, we will refund the deposit and find you the next best photographer with notice. However a last minute act of God will mean we will send some of our trusted second shooters or associate who have worked along side us before. Than still edit all your images ourselves. Honestly we have so many safe guards in place this issue should never happen.
At the end of the day we want to work with you to make sure things work out in your favour!
You will find in our contract that we request a notice for rescheduling if something comes up, causing you to need to change your date. Our dates are booked far in advanced and last minute changes can cause us to lose out on a wedding and our needed number of events a year. That is why our contacts highlight what we need, what happens if you cancel and what happens if you just reschedule.
The same goes for regular photoshoots, if for some crazy reason the weather is horrible (and you aren’t up for stunning rain photos) or a family emergency, we will reschedule around what works best for you. Will you need us during the week or on our weekend off, we will make it work!
Rain, hail or shine, I won’t miss a beat
For weddings I require 1/4 down for wedding deposits with 50% being non-refundable. The remaining can be split up to work best for your finances. Would you like $500 payments or pay in full, we are happy to work with you. The full fee will be due the day before your wedding.
Regular sessions I require the full session fee up front. This saves your date and is all I need until you view your images. After that you will have 1 week to select and pay for the images you would like to buy. An un-archival fee will apply if you wait too long to order images.

Our films are artistically created with each of our couples personalities and values in mind. We will meet with you before your wedding day to go over more of this, however we do request that you tell us any moments that are important ahead of time. This insures we priorities those shots on the wedding day as well as priorities adding them into your incredible 7min highlight film of your wedding day.

We require our travel (plane ticket or car fuel) to be covered, as well as 2 nights for BC, and 3 nights for international travels. If you are needing us to travel around on the wedding day Uber or Car rental fees will apply. We also use many travel visa point systems that will help us cut down costs on rentals, and tickets to help you get the most affordable options. We will be yours for not one whole day, but 3+ days! Because we have such a heart for adventure and travel we keep the travel fees to the bare minimum to help save you on costs where we can.
Rain, hail or shine, I won’t miss a beat
I always suggest AT LEAST a one month notice for booking a regular session, with a hire chance of finding space with 3+ months from time of inquiry to the session date. However if you do want a last minute shoot I will do all I can to see if I can find time to fit you in :)
Weddings are a different story. I suggest 9+ months in advance, however you can always ask me later and you just may be that lucky couple that snags my last wedding for the season!
No. I once heard the analogy, do you go to a restaurant for the cook to bring you a frozen, raw steak or chicken? Neither do you go to a photographer for un-edited images. When you chose us, you fell in love with our style of edit, our eye to find emotion and flattering angles. We do all the heavy lifting to create the most beautiful images, so that you don’t need to dig through any eye blinks, awkward facial expressions and duplicates. If there is ever an image you think we missed we will happily look back through to find it, but your images will be edited.
I love to over share! For a regular one hour shoot you can expect to see 80+ images. For your wedding day this will purely depend on the events and hours. If you have a full day coverage, lots of decor, games and photo worthy moments, we can be capturing up to 1000 images! However a full day wedding I can say to expect around 750 images.
We believe in capturing real moments, and real memories. Capturing the beauty of who you are, as you are. This means we will not make you skinnier or stronger etc. We do remove pimples and temporary imperfections, but you need to know you are beautiful just the way you are!
We do offer an additional edit option, where we will either edit ourselves or outsource to fix extreme cases, such as taking out people, moving an arm to a different position, adding a sunset in the middle of the day etc. This would be an extra fee.
No. I will rarely offer minis. This will be the closest thing to a discount, that I create for those who may not be able to afford my regular fee. This however is only upon advertisement and specific time slots, and is not an option for any time. I do this because we found a price that covers our time and experience in giving you photographs we truly believe are one of a kind. We value our work and love that our clients do as well.
If you love our work and we are not in your budget, consider a payment plan or booking our associate photographer for the same style and edit and experience for a smaller fee.

"I want to explain how it is to feel the moments over again. To know what my heart felt the day I was married to my sweetheart. We wanted to have memories we could look back on to remind us how our beautiful day, and in our case a few days (due to the health crisis going on). We were introduced to Tyra and Braylan Ekland when we decided to have engagement photos.
The engagement photos were amazing and the way our love was captured is phenomenal.
We opted to also have a video taken and we truly didn’t know how it would turn out. I’m here to say that I tear up everytime I see it. The emotions are pounding in my chest every time I relive those special days. I honestly don’t think my own memories would have captured the events as well as Tyra and Braydan have in their videos and there’s still photos.
So my advice to anyone interested, if you want the same lump in your throat, the same tear jerking moments and the same heart skip a beat memories.
